The Lotch

The Lotch were a non-human race which often looked human except at close range.  Up close, you could recognize a Lotch by nen's jigsaw pattern of lines on the skin.  These were the dividing lines between the components of a composite being. 

If attacked, a Lotch could choose to split up into dozens of flapping forms, recombining once the threat was over.  Often, however, the Lotch itself was the attacker, its head opening (in appearance like the petals of a carnivorous flower) to bite off the head of a human.

Their life-cycle entailed short bursts of energy and long quiescent periods in between.  This was fortunate for Syoom, as when active the Lotch were very dangerous.  An example of the threat they posed was their participation in the great Fyayman invasion of Syoom during the Strontium Era. 

It is suspected by some that they were planetary antibodies sent by the World Spirit to curb human expansion.

The Lotch have not been seen for a long time and it is hoped that they are extinct.
